Cigna Healthcare Data Stewardship Senior Manager in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey

Role Summary:

The Enterprise Data Strategy team within Global Data & Analytics (GD&A) is built to help CIGNA drive that improvement in the accessibility and quality of our data assets and tools, and allow us to deliver data solutions faster than we do today. Our ultimate goal is to ensure Cigna’s ability to grow is unconstrained by any limitations of our data. The CIGNA Enterprise Data Strategy team is comprised of business and technical teams spanning Customer, Provider, Buyer and Intermediary Data Domains as well as foundational enterprise data teams. The Provider Data Domain team establishes customer data strategy through an Enterprise lens and ensures roadmap delivery for all enterprise customer data domain initiatives.

The Data Stewardship Sr. Manager – Provider Data Domain will be responsible for leading the Data Stewardship team. Assigning resources to domain and business programs, monitoring performance of resources and providing feedback on the data capabilities to continuously improve processes and tooling. This is a business-facing role that requires a candidate with leadership skills and a strong data management background who understands data, how to steward and curate data and continuously improve an operation. You will collaborate with and support the Provider Domain Owner in the establishment of stewardship for the provider data and will be responsible for managing operations and continuously improving operations efficiency and effectiveness.


  • Data Stewardship: Collaborate with Product Managers, Product Owners, data stewards and operations teams across various application and business domains to define policies, data requirements, data standards and business rules for sourcing data elements to meet business portfolio requirements

  • Business Data Glossary / Critical Data Element Management: Partner with stakeholders in identifying and defining logical data attributes and their relationship to a physical data element including its nature as critical data or other relevant data classifications

  • Data Capabilities: Lead execution of standard processes for stewardship for the team producing standard artifacts to meet the requirements for Enterprise Data Strategy


  • 8+ years of experience with data management, data governance, EDS and data stewardship

  • 8+ years’ experience in a large, diverse data management organization

  • 5+ years’ experience working with Healthcare Customer Solutions highly desired

  • Experience scoping complex data requirements/issues and driving through to completion

  • Strong communications skills; written, verbal and presentation

  • Proven track record of driving change and teaching/motivating individuals to develop & implement new ways of thinking and doing business

  • Previous people management experience highly preferred

  • Experience with data analysis and data analysis tools/SQL preferred

  • Experience with data catalog and data governance tools strongly preferred

  • Experience with project management methodologies; Agile preferred

  • Experience with Agile Central (Rally) or comparable agile management tools preferred
