Director of Sales Operations (Sales Administration Manager)

Organization Summary

Cigna's Industry Verticals segment serves over 2.7 million customers and is comprised of four segments or business that span all U.S Commercial Markets: Government and Education (G&E); Hospitals and Health Systems (H&HS); and Allegiance (a stand-alone wholly owned subsidiary of Cigna) and Qualcare. Each segment or business delivers expertise to local market leadership as it relates to sales strategy and capabilities necessary to meet unique client and customer needs.

Role Summary

Directs sales support services and operations with responsibility for developing, planning, and implementing management processes, growth initiatives, and budgets for Cigna's Industry Verticals – which includes oversight of the Government & Education (G&E), Hospital & Health Systems (H&HS) segments as well as the stand alone Allegiance and QualCare business. The Director of Sales Operations is a segment-based role, complementary to the Business leads for the aforementioned segments and business as well as the market-based Government & Education Distribution Leads (GEDL). This role will report to the Operations Director for the Industry Verticals. This role manages segment priorities and projects, including but not limited to business planning, distribution relations, lead prospecting and sales education.


Strategic Business Plan development: Takes a leadership role in the development and execution of the Industry Vertical strategies. In partnership with functional business partners and sales/management teams, assists in the development and execution of Industry Vertical strategies and programs to grow the business. Ensures alignment with overall U.S. Commercial Segment strategy and growth goals. Supports other key elements of the business planning process.

Partner with segment finance partners to report, analyze and synthesize monthly reporting.

Ensure data integrity in, Apex, M3 and other data repositories to support accurate reporting.

Review, analyze and true-up sold business, revenue and membership with Finance team.

Completes timely and accurate APEX projections (by FAT) including provision of supporting information for projection.

Produces analytical reporting in support of medical, dental and specialty planning, MRC adoption, expense and earnings projections and actual results.

Produces reporting for business Quarterly Operating Reviews.

Deliver sales analytics and insights on sales performance to the local leadership team to aid in daily operations, business initiatives and ongoing strategy planning and execution.

Maintains sales pipeline reports and dashboards in conjunction with Business Leads and GEDLs ensuring accuracy and completeness. Provides and presents executive level summaries of sales pipeline that supports growth projections.

Drives the development and execution of the Industry Verticals membership plan(s) and projection reporting activity.

Partners with Finance and Industry Vertical Leadership / matrix partners in scorecard development and actions to achieve results.

Ensures compliant engagement of lobbyist with responsibility for budget and invoicing.

Manages unit budgets allocations/expenditures and reporting.

Drives operating expense improvement metrics.

Works with unit to build/execute individual development action plans including assistance identifying and organizing training and development opportunities for the direct team and matrix partners.

Identifies metrics and measures return on investment for all business activities; captures learnings for continuous improvement. Demonstrates a strong test and learn discipline in solving business challenges.

Implements effective and efficient administrative operating processes and recommends best practices.



Preferred Competencies: Organizational Agility, Customer Focus, Courage, Problem Solving

8 years of experience in accounting, finance, operations, underwriting, sales support, process management or related analytical experience. Healthcare experience preferred but not required.

BA/BS required. MBA or advanced degree Preferred.

Demonstrated proficiency in Plan development, analytics and reporting.

Demonstrated ability to apply business financial knowledge to support growth and earnings goals and to provide meaningful analytics.

Proven track record in influencing throughout the matrix environment.

Excellent organizational skills, and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities to meet reporting needs.
