The Role

Focuses on the use of data and analytics to improve health and optimize consumer focused business processes. Responsible for the extraction of health care information regarding network utilization, cost containment and clinical quality information. Analyzes, writes, and presents healthcare utilization and cost containment reports and makes recommendations based on relevant findings to drive the decision-making process and support business operations for internal and external customers in an effort to control medical cost and improve the quality of services provided to members. Combines analytic capabilities with clinical knowledge to determine trends, cost/benefit ratios, and forecast health care costs, medical management, and health economics. Also responsible for designing and implementing the systems and programming to analyze and report findings. This position requires a high level of expertise in both analyzing medical data and information systems, including the ability to read large datasets, create new codes in SQL and/or SAS, analyze data, and summarize results.

This position will be required to have expertise in several different technologies used by the AZ Medicare Advantage Informatics team. These include multiple database technologies such as MS SQL, IBM DB2, Teradata, SAS, and Access. There are also several important other tools such as Tableau and Cognos. These technologies will be used to develop complex data processes for operational reporting and in-depth analysis for specific projects such as evaluating the success of clinical programs.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop data analysis codes and processes using tools such as SQL, SAS, and Tableau

  • Management and support of existing Tableau Dashboards

  • Potential development and testing of new Tableau Dashboards

  • Maintain tables, validate data, document monthly/weekly processes, and train team members on SQL and data tables

  • Support AZ Medicare Advantage plan analytics and reporting.

  • Work directly with clinical staff on report requests / data needs

  • Support strategic initiatives for AZ Medicare plan

  • Successfully complete project deliverables associated with all aspects of life cycle methodology including design, build, test, train and implementation.

  • Interact closely with internal customers to understand their needs and expectations.

  • Provide status reports, verbal and written.

  • Take initiative to identify process improvements and implement them when needed.

  • Support and assist in the successful completion of team goals.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Ideal Candidates Will Offer:

  • 4+ years’ experience with SQL

  • Experience with SAS preferred

  • Experience with Tableau preferred

  • Experience in related health care analytics; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background preferred

  • Experience with Visual Basic for Applications is preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft software applications (Excel, Access, Powerpoint) and Windows operating system environment

  • Have the ability to work independently and in conjunction with coworkers of all levels

  • Experience interpreting and defining business requirements for complex business problems

  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and take initiative with limited direction

  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
