Cigna Senior Healthcare Data Scientist -Predictive Analytics in Raleigh, North Carolina


In this position, you will use your data science skills, health care expertise, and creativity to build innovative predictive models for Cigna's Individual & Family Plans business. We’re looking for the right candidate to help us leverage a wide variety of clinical, claims, and consumer data to help us better understand and manage our customers’ health. You’ll help convert these innovative data assets into findings and insights to support risk adjustment, quality management, customer health outcomes, and medical cost management.

In this role, you’ll perform:

• Advanced trend analytics to answer “what happened?”

• Root cause statistical analyses to answer “why did this happen?”

• Predictive modeling to answer “what will happen next?” and “ who is it likely to happen to?”

• Data mining and pattern analysis to answer “ where are the opportunities?”

• Innovation processes and pilot campaigns to answer “how can we get better?”

What you’ll do:

• Build subject-matter expertise in the array of available data; understand opportunities and limitations of various data sets

• Develop models that help our business identify risk, predict behavior, and stratify customers

• Partner to integrate the modeling into key applications, including risk adjustment optimization, clinical outcomes, cost management, and customer communications

• Identify opportunities to integrate unique population health data asset and other clinical data into modeling

• Measure the impact of predictive modeling and communicate the results to a wide range of stakeholders

• Develop procedures to test and learn new algorithms, and implement feedback loops to improve model

quality over time


• Advanced degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or equivalent training and work experience

• 5 years of work experience with health care data and analytics, including proven results building predictive models

• Deep expertise with statistical software and tools such as SAS, SQL, R, Python, etc.

• Strong working knowledge of analytical techniques for predictive modeling, including leveraging machine learning methods

• Ability to work in think creatively and put structure around complex problems

• Strong customer focus and management of client expectations

• Ability to translate business needs into practical applications and solutions

• Ability to clearly present findings to a diverse group of teams with varying levels of technical expertise

• Deep healthcare data knowledge

• Prior corporate experience preferred
